Self - Respect of Hazrat Babuji (R.A)

Taking of Golra Shrine by Auqaf Department

Babuji (R.A) greatly valued self-respect and never stooped before anyone – howsoever high a position he might hold. Political ranking and worldly prestige could never influence or impress Babuji (R.A). In the year 1961 when the Government took over the shrine of Golra Sharif and placed it under the Auqaf Department, Babuji (R.A) never cared to approach any Government authority and instead contested the decision in a court of law. He held the view that if one is in the right, he should not approach anyone for help.

On 9th June 1964, Babuji (R.A) met then Ambassador of Pakistan in Baghdad who was a great devotee of Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Gilani (R.A) and who had called upon him earlier. Babuji (R.A) expressed grief at the way Auqaf Department had treated him at the instigation of someone. Babuji (R.A) never wanted to gain power “We don’t want to rule nor do we need to have our Government”; Babuji (R.A) remarked. The Ambassador invited Babuji (R.A) to dinner but Babuji (R.A) expressed regrets as he did not want it from the Government funds. In case the Ambassador could treat him with a cup of tea or water from his own personal fund, Babuji (R.A) would gladly accept that.

Babuji’s (R.A) letter to Hazrat Madni Sahib regarding taking over of Shrine of Golra Sharif by Auqaf Department, Dated 24.4.1961

“The Auqaf Department has taken over all the Shrines, four guest houses, old and new assembly halls, Library and the keys. All the followers have been deeply grieved and have demanded from the Government to give up such an interference as there is no Waqf and there is an exemplary management. A suit has been instituted against the Government in the court of law. This is an outwardly effort but I believe that whatever is decided by the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) who is the distributor, and Allah who is the Bestower, will happen.  I request you to offer my humble salutations before the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) and pray that Allah may protect us from the tyranny of usurpers. We are sinners but there is none to protect us except Allah and the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H).

On the basis of civil suit, Babuji (R.A) won the case in the court of Mr. Mohsin S. Tirmizi, Sessions Judge, Rawalpindi.

Translation: “If there is succour from the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) the lions will flee from their dens". (From Qaseeda Burdah Sharif).

In one of the letters addressed to Madni Sahib, Babuji (R.A) wrote that he had presented his case before the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) – but did believe in the physical effort as directed by the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) as in case of medicine and its cure. The Government wanted Babuji (R.A) to seek its help and thus feel obliged to them, thinking that Babuji (R.A) would then support the Government. Such an act was, however, far from Babuji’s (R.A) nature.
